Easy does it, but do it is a slogan used in most anonymous recovery programs, including Al-Anon and AA.
When I slow down, I make fewer typing mistakes. I used to be a speed typist and sometimes I forget that it was forty years ago. Also, I think I used to write quickly by starting off slowly and speeding up.
Writing is the same way. I think I zip along, fearing that if I go slowly I’ll stop altogether. I am trying to outrun my critic. But I wonder if it is my critic that is pushing me to go faster and faster. It sounds about right. In my family of origin, I was frequently told to hurry up, even though I had more energy that any of them.
So I am practicing writing poetry more slowly and we’ll see what happens.
